PPF vs. Ceramic Coating: Which Do You Need?

Film stops rock chips. Coatings make washing easy. Here's how to decide — and why many owners choose both.

Paint protection film is a physical barrier. At roughly 8 mil thick, it absorbs the impact of stones and road debris that would otherwise chip your paint. Its self-healing top coat also erases light swirls with a little heat.

Ceramic coating is a chemical layer measured in microns. It won't stop a rock chip, but it adds deep gloss, sheds water and grime, and makes routine washing dramatically faster.

The most popular approach is to combine them: film on high-impact areas like the front bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors, and a ceramic coating over the entire vehicle — including the film — for easy maintenance everywhere.
